The 1974–75 season was Derby County's 75th in the Football League and their 48th season in the top flight. They won their second league title in four years to qualify for the 1975–76 European Cup .

During the 1973–74 English football season, Derby County F.C. competed in the Division One, the FA Cup and the League Cup. During summer the club transferred in Defender Rod Thomas and Midfielder Henry Newton.

Derby were on 51 points and had two games remaining, Ipswich were in fourth, three points behind but with three to play. Derby edged closer on April 19 when they drew 0-0 at Leicester but crucially, Ipswich, Liverpool and Everton all lost.
