Six historical sites belong to the Berlin Wall Foundation: The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse is the central memorial dedicated to German division; the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum on flight and immigration from the GDR; the Günter Litfin Memorial honors Günter Litfin, the East Side Gallery and Parliament of Trees.

Ten people died in the area around the Berlin Wall Memorial in connection with the border GDR regime. These deaths all occurred in the 1960s.
