HQ Northern Ireland was the formation responsible for the British Army in and around Northern Ireland. It was established in 1922 and disbanded, replaced by a brigade-level Army Reserve formation, 38 (Irish) Brigade, in 2009. Ireland was partitioned in mid-1921.

2009年9月14日 · I am after information on the 70th regiment of Foot, my ancestor Robert Chalmers b 1790 Girvan Ayrshire, joined the army in December 1813. the story goes that he was a soldier until a year or so before his death in 1836 in Glasgow. We understand one child at least was born in Ireland, possibly two, Samuel b 1827/1828 .

The Northern Ireland–resident battalions of the Royal Irish Regiment – which grew out of the Ulster Defence Regiment – were stood down on 1 September 2006. The operation officially ended at midnight on 31 July 2007, making it the longest continuous deployment in the British Army's history, lasting over 37 years.

The four Regular Army battalions stationed in Northern Ireland were all quickly posted away, to be replaced by the Territorial Army 53 (Welsh) infantry Division, which arrived in tranches between October 1939 and April 1940. In November 1940, the Northern Ireland District was divided into three areas: Belfast; Northern Area; Southern Area.
