An executive order President Donald Trump signed on his first day back in office offers a new federal government definition of the sexes that could have a major impact on transgender people nationwide.

Trump promised at his inaugural address that "national unity" would return. But much of this week has seen the returning president continue to pummel out-of-power foes. He called former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, a "crying lunatic."

The Fraternal Order of Police, which endorsed Donald Trump in the last three elections, said it was "deeply discouraged" by recent pardons.

Trump said his pardons and commutations for Jan. 6 defendants were justified, and argued that people who commit violent crime in other cities don't get charged.
